Support – Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to some common questions. View the Goodstart at Home full terms and conditions here.

Q. What is Goodstart at Home?

At Goodstart Early Learning our purpose is to ensure that all Australia’s children have the learning, development and wellbeing outcomes they need for school and life.

Home learning is such an important part of the mix and that’s where Goodstart at Home comes in.

Goodstart at Home is a regularly updated online collection of fun and enriching learning activities and experiences for you and your child to discover at home. We all know the importance of the home in supporting children’s learning. The activity cards and experiences support family members to do just that. Some of the activities and experiences are designed for parents to play together with their child, and some encourage independent play.

Q. Who creates the learning activities?

The activities have been developed by our team of highly experienced and qualified early childhood and primary education experts, and provide a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to connect and create fun and purposeful play opportunities while at home. You can meet some of the team here: https://www.goodstart.org.au/goodstart-at-home

Each activity steps through what the learning will be for children, what parents need to do, key prompts and questions to use and the everyday household items you might need for each one.

The activities on Goodstart at Home cover the below curriculum areas (age appropriate):
• Literacy
• Mathematics
• STEM
• Social and Emotional Well Being
• Physical Development
• Creative Development
• Daily Routines.

Q. Is this only for Goodstart centres and Goodstart families?

Not at all. As a not-for-profit social enterprise our vision is to support all children to have the learning, development and wellbeing outcomes they need for school and life.

We have created these resources to support all educators in the meaningful and life changing work they do each day, and to provide easy to use and effective tools to for parents to help them navigate the joys and challenges of raising young children.

These resources are available to everyone, everywhere.

Digital subscription

Q. I have purchased a digital subscription for my centre, how do I get access?

This is a 12-month digital subscription to Goodstart at Home, providing access to all existing and future content for one year from 1st login date.

Once your payment has been confirmed we will generate and send you a unique key you can use to access the site. You then just need to enter your personal or centre details and choose a password and your account will be activated.

You can then return to athome.goodstart.org.au any time and use your email address and password to log in.

Q. I want to purchase more than one subscription to give some to my families. How can I do this?

There are two ways you are able to do this – via the single use key option or the multi-use key option (you’ll see both products listed separately.)

About the single-use key purchase
Click on the image that says Goodstart at Home online learning hub (single-use key, 12-month digital subscription) then:

  1. Click add to cart.
  2. Click view cart.
  3. In your cart you can then select the quantity of subscriptions you would like to purchase.

Once payment has been confirmed you will then be sent a different access key for each of the subscriptions you have purchased. So, if you purchase 10 subscriptions you will be sent 10 different keys (codes).

Please note each unique key can only be used once. 1 key = 1 subscription. Once a family enters the access code to create an account that key will no longer be able to be used by anyone else.

    About the multi-use key purchase
Another way you can purchase multiple subscriptions is via the multi-use key option.

It operates in a similar way to the single-use option, however instead of getting a number of different access keys (codes) you will be given 1 that is valid to be used up to a certain number of times.

For example, when you purchase say 10 digital subscriptions you will receive one ‘access key/code’ that can be used up to ten times. Once ten people have used the code to create an account it will then no longer be valid.

This option may be useful if you just want to email one code to a set number of families rather than go through the process of distributing a unique ‘code’ to each family. However, if a family decides to share the code there is no way to limit who uses it, which means once 10 accounts have been created the ‘access’ key will no longer work.

    Q. Can I cancel my subscription early?

Unfortunately, it’s a one-off fee for a 12-month subscription. After the 12-month period the subscription will automatically end. Remember the activities are updated regularly so be sure to check the latest content section each time you log in.

    Q. Can two people use one subscription?

Each subscription allows one account to be created, with one login.

    Q. Will my subscription be automatically renewed?

No. However, we will reach out to you close to the end of the twelve months to confirm if you would like to continue with your subscription to Goodstart at Home.

    Ordering and payment

    Q. Do I have to pay by credit card or is there another way?

You are able to make purchases either via credit card or direct bank transfer.

If you are paying by bank transfer you will need to make sure to include your order number in the ‘message to the recipient’ when making the transfer.

Please note if you are paying via bank transfer this may delay delivery times as we need to confirm payment has cleared before dispatching.

    Q. I have placed an order for a behaviour support kit/ activity book. How long until I receive my order?

Orders are received and dispatched within a week of receiving payment confirmation.

Due to COVID we are experiencing longer than usual delivery times through our courier network.

Shipping times vary across metro and regional areas, however if you don’t receive your item within 14 days of purchase please contact gsathome@goodstart.org.au.

    Q. I have changed my mind about buying a digital subscription – can I get refund?

Unfortunately, we are unable to refund or cancel a subscription once purchased as it goes directly towards the costs of running the platform. However, we are continuously updating the resources and what we offer on the site which you will continue to have access to for the duration of your 12-month subscription. We also actively encourage feedback so if there is anything you would like to see us include please drop us a line at gsathome@goodstart.org.au.

    Q. The items I received have been damaged in transit. What do I do?

Within 24 hours of receiving your goods please send a photograph of the damage and a description to gsathome@goodstart.org.au with a request for replacement. If the damage is assessed as being significant enough to render the materials unusable, a replacement order will be issued.

    Behaviour Support Kit

    Q. What exactly is in the Family Behaviour Support Kit?

As a social purpose we are passionate about supporting the learning and development outcomes for children, both in our centres and at-home. We've created this toolkit to help parents support their children as they learn and navigate through their behaviours and emotions.

The Family Behaviour Support Kit has a number of key resources for parents to use including:

    1. A detailed guide to step you through how to use each resource with your child.
    2. A routine chart to help with understanding what needs to be done each day/morning/night.
    3. Picture cards and a ‘First and Then’ chart to show visually what a child should do first and then (e.g. First we go to the toilet, then we wash our hands. First, we make our bed, then we go and play). This resource is particularly useful in supporting children to do those ‘tricky’ or ‘not fun’ tasks!
    4. A number of useful printed charts and tools focused on emotions and calming down strategies including: This is how I am feeling emotions chart, relaxation thermometer poster, 5 deep breaths chart and associated picture cards.
    5. Stop, Think, Do chart to support your child’s behaviour.
    6. How to acknowledge positive behaviours chart for you to complete as a parent.

    Q. What is the Goodstart Behaviour Support Classroom Package?

The Goodstart Behaviour Support Kit has been designed to support the intentional teaching of pro-social skills and self-regulation for typically developing children aged 3-5 years. It is a carefully designed suite of resources that educators and teachers can draw from and tailor to the unique learning styles of the children they teach. The materials in the kit have been co-designed with educators and specialists in children’s behaviour.

This kit asks educators and teachers to deliberately plan for children’s social and emotional learning and self-regulation and use a range of intentional teaching strategies to promote learning, development and wellbeing outcomes.

The Behaviour Support Kit visual aids are a teaching tool for supporting pro-social behaviour and communication with young children. Using consistent images to support communication around children’s behaviour is key to the successful implementation of visual communication strategies.

The Behaviour Support Kit links to the following EYLF outcomes:
Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity.
Outcome 2: Children are connected with and
    contribute to their world.
Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing.
Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved
    learners.
Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators.

The Behaviour Support Kit links to the following National Quality Standards:
Quality Area 1 – Educational program and practice.
Quality Area 5 – Relationships with children

The Behaviour Support Kit links to the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers:
    3.5 Use effective classroom communication
    4.2 Manage classroom activities
    4.3 Manage challenging behaviour

    Q. Can I order more than one bundle of each of the kits?

Yes, absolutely. We know these kits are something that educators and families will find useful in supporting children’s behaviour and emotions. You are able to purchase as many bundles as you like to distribute to your educators and families.

    Q. Can I buy individual activity books or behaviour support kits?

Unfortunately, due to packaging and posting costs we are only able to provide the kits and activity books in the nominated bundles available. Please note however that you able to purchase multiple bundles.
